About Us

Luis Gallardo, Bike City OwnerLucho “Luis” Gallardo Baron grew up in Trujillo, Peru. His father, a respected bicycle mechanic, was the owner of the El Pedal bike shop. Luis interest in cycling began at an early age as both a racer and mechanic. From 1969 to1974, Luis raced for the El Pedal racing team. He was good enough to represent his state in national championship races in 1971 and 1972. When he was not racing, Luis learned the craft of bicycle repair under the watchful eye of his father. Luis’s broad range of experience as a mechanic extends to expertise in welding, painting, and frame repair.

In 1985, Luis came to the United States. Soon after arriving, he began working at Bike World, quickly rising to the position of store manager of the Broadway store, then General Manager of the Broadway and Blanco Road stores. In 1995, Luis saw an opportunity to serve customers needing BMX bikes and custom low-rider parts. He opened his West Avenue shop to cater to them as well as roadies and mountain bikers. In 2004, he helped form the Bike City-Chain Reaction bicycle club.

Recently, Luis opened his second location at Lockhill-Selma and Blanco Road, right across the street from the Bike World he once managed. The next time you are in the neighborhood, stop by and visit, being the Jefé, Luis is always here.

Luis then started working at a bike shop in Dallas as a helper at the age of 14, afterwards moving to San Antonio in 1987, by this time he was riding freestyle and mountain and working on his and his friends' bikes out of his father’s garage.

Caleb Choate, Bike City Employee Caleb Choate is originally from Bridge City, Tx. and has been riding bikes since he can remember. As he got older, found himself taking bikes apart and putting them back together more than I rode them. Life moved him away from bikes for awhile until he moved to San Antonio and went to work as a bike builder/mechanic and began riding mountain bikes.

Over the years Caleb has collected a nice group of bikes including a hardtail ATB he built himself, an old Raleigh fully rigid ATB converted into single speed, a tandem, and a GT cyclecross bike (as his newest family member). He has been wrenching now for 4 years and can't think of anything else he would rather be doing.

David Guillory, Bike City Employee David Guillory is a retired Marine and has been riding for most of his life. He initially started out as a commuter, but has tried his hand at marathoning, road racing, triathlons and mountain bike racing.

Born in New Orleans, LA, David has ridden and raced in Southern California, N. Carolina, Virginia and Japan before moving his family to San Antonio in June 2009. He now enjoys road riding and time trialing and when not working you can usually find him riding somewhere between Cibolo and Canyon Lake.

He hopes to one day meet Levi Leipheimer, Chris Horner and ride L' Alpe d'Huez, the cobbles of Belguim and around Lake Como to see the shrine of Madonna del Ghisallo.
